Blair

My stomach dropped as Felicity's eyes locked on mine and a smile crept upon her lips.

"This isn't what it looks like," I uttered, my voice a bit louder than intended. But maybe it was. Our entire history flashed before my eyes. Why did I feel guilty for standing there, knowing that we were about to kiss, and now being caught in an intimate moment?

Felicity crossed her arms as she stared at Cole and back to me, her expression unreadable. "Uh-huh. Well, are you ready to go to brunch?"

I bit my lip before turning away from Cole and heading in Felicity's direction. "Yeah, let's go."

I couldn't bear to glance back at him again. Her gaze bored into me until we stepped outside the shop and the cool air hit my face. She pushed me forward with a hand on my back and hooked her arm through mine.

"I knew you still had feelings for him. It's so obvious. Do all the guys around here look like they stepped out of a Christmas movie? It's almost obnoxious at this point."

She waved her hand over the street as if to emphasize her point. Most of the men wore work boots and jeans, their hands and arms rugged from a lifetime of manual labor. Even their faces were weathered—exposure from the sun from working on cars, framing houses, and toiling in the fields of their family farms. With no gym in town, their strength and endurance came from work rather than weights.

"First Cole and now Thomas," she continued. "I'm anxious to see if there's a tattooed bad boy working at the place we're eating. If there is, I might pass out or decide to never leave."

I double over laughing in the middle of the sidewalk. She acted like there were no good-looking men in the city. I had to disagree. Sure, the men here were a little more serious, but in the city, they were more driven with their tailored suits, sculpted jawlines, and bright eyes to match. Many were undeniably attractive.

"When we get back to the city, we will find you a tattooed rich bad boy, okay? Right now, we need to focus on getting this signing over with and out of Amesbury."

I pulled on the heavy door of The Hideout and stepped inside. A wave of nostalgia washed over me. The small booth seats were still tucked into the corners of the smudged windows, offering a view of Main Street outside. The long countertop was lined with worn stools and laminated menus featuring breakfast, lunch, and dinner specials. And my favorite thing of all—the black-and-white-checkered tiles hadn't changed in fifteen years.

"Well, now I feel like I went back in time to the eighties," Felicity said, twirling around, taking in the place. "We don't have anything like this in the city.”

"No, we do not," I replied, taking a seat in a booth.

A middle-aged woman with brown hair approached us with two menus. "Well, I'll be. Is that you, Blair? It's been ages since I've seen you in here.
